THE CARPENTER’S SON (2025) – FULL MOVIE NEWS CONTENT
INTRODUCTION
“The Carpenter’s Son” is a 2025 supernatural thriller-horror film that reimagines the childhood of Jesus
through the lens of the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas. Directed by Lotfy Nathan, the movie
blends biblical themes with dark, supernatural elements, making it one of the most controversial and
talked-about releases of the year.
PLOT SUMMARY
The film is set in Roman-era Egypt and follows a small family — the Carpenter (Joseph), the Mother
(Mary), and the Boy (young Jesus). As the Boy begins to display strange and powerful supernatural
abilities, the family becomes the center of terrifying, otherworldly events.
A mysterious young Stranger appears and befriends the Boy, tempting him into exploring his powers
further. It is later revealed that this Stranger is Satan, seeking to manipulate the Boy away from his
purpose. As visions, nightmares, and violent supernatural events escalate, the Carpenter and the
Mother struggle to protect their son while confronting the truth about who he is.
CHARACTERS & CAST
- Nicolas Cage plays the Carpenter (Joseph).
- Noah Jupe plays the Boy (young Jesus).
- FKA Twigs plays the Mother (Mary).
- Isla Johnston plays the Stranger (Satan).
- Souheila Yacoub appears in a supporting role.
PRODUCTION DETAILS
Filmed in Greece — especially in rugged, remote terrains — the movie uses natural landscapes to
recreate a harsh, ancient environment. Reports from the set include an incident involving Nicolas Cage
being swarmed by wild bees inside a cave used during filming.
The movie was produced by Spacemaker, Cinenovo, Anonymous Content, Curious Gremlin, and
Saturn Films. Magnolia Pictures later acquired U.S. distribution rights.

CRITICAL & PUBLIC RECEPTION
Early reviews have been mixed to negative. Critics from The Guardian and other outlets pointed out
tonal inconsistencies and a lack of emotional grounding. However, others praised the film for taking a
bold, unconventional approach to biblical storytelling.
The movie also sparked significant religious controversy. Some Christian groups labeled it
blasphemous, leading to online backlash and review bombing. Director Lotfy Nathan stated that the film
is not meant to mock religion but to explore faith, identity, and mythology in a darker storytelling style.
WHY THE MOVIE IS CONTROVERSIAL
1. Uses apocryphal texts outside the canonical Bible.
2. Reimagines Jesus’ childhood in a horror setting.
3. Blends faith, family drama, and demonic elements.
4. Received backlash from conservative Christian communities.
5. Director reports receiving threats due to the film's content.
FINAL THOUGHTS
“The Carpenter’s Son” is a daring, visually striking, and deeply polarizing film. It pushes boundaries by
using religious figures in a horror framework, raising debates about artistic freedom, faith, and
reinterpretation of sacred storie.
